The race is on!!

And I am definitely the turtle. I officially weighed and measured myself. Here are my official stats (UGH! I can't believe I'm posting these for all to see, but hopefully someone out there can benefit from knowing they are not alone)

Weight: 234.6 (officially 3 pounds heavier than I was at full-term with both kids. ICK!!)

Chest: 43.25"
Ribs: 38.25"
Waist: 44"
Belly: 50" (I take this one at the largest point of my belly because my "pooch" is the hardest thing to lose)
Hips: 51"
Thighs: 31"
Calves: 18"
Arms: 16.5"

And now you know!! I was a lean athlete until I was 20 years old, I gained a bunch, but shed most by my early 20s. Now, here I sit in my early 30s ready to see some semblance of that lean athlete's body again. I'm not saying I am aiming to get my 18 year old, pre-baby body back. That's just not possible. But, I am saying that I'm striving to get that athletic look back. I will never be skinny, my body just wasn't made that way, but I feel great and look good with curves instead of lumps.

I'll take some before pictures, but you won't see those until the one month mark so I have a comparison pic... that way I hope it won't look as horrible because it will be in the past. I've entered everything into my Weight Watchers (WW) Tracker and I'm all set to go.

My first day wasn't horrible. We didn't have points friendly foods in the house, so I had to settle with what we had in moderation. Surprisingly, I didn't reach my points quota for the day! That's not a good thing, but I was too afraid of going over. I'll do better tomorrow. Learning a whole new points system (WW changed their points values last month for the first time in 13 years!) is quite tricky, but lends a newness to an old friend. I knew the last system too well, and unfortunately that also meant I knew how to cheat the system. Not knowing the points values of anything, or even how to guess at them yet, will really help me watch what I eat closely and make good decisions. I'll have to actually think instead of just assume. And another great part of the new system is that ALL fruits and veggies are FREE!!!! I love free stuff. Again, this will allow me to make a good choice. I can either have the 100 calorie pack of cookies for, say, 3 points... or I can have the juicy apple for zero. On days where my points are stacked against me, I'll obviously go for the apple (which used to be 2 points for a large one by the way). This summer will also rock because corn on the cob is a freebie too. YUM YUM!! You used to have to pay for that luxury. So, there are some major pluses to the new system.

So, I've cleaned out my refrigerator and freezer (boy did they need it), spent almost 2 hours grocery shopping, have a rough plan of meals for tomorrow, and have dinner ideas for the rest of the week. I'm set!

I've decided on a few extra ideas for this blog. First, we all know how many quick, frozen "lean" entrees there are in the freezer section of the grocery stores. Quick and easy, so I'll give them a try. But be warned! Lean doesn't always mean lean. Some of the items I looked at cost 9 or 10 points and the serving size wouldn't fill up my 3 year old! In layman's terms, they were about 350 calories, 7g of fat, 38g of carbs and MAYBE 6 or 7g of protein. There are better options out there. But lunches are hard to plan and pack, especially when trying to get everything else done in an evening or morning. So, when I try one of these frozen meals I'll report back if I consider it a friend of foe. Was it worth the points? Did it taste okay? Would I do it again or did I take one bite and toss it in the garbage (I've done this before too).

Also, my goal is to try one new recipe a week. When I try this recipe, I'll post it here, hopefully accompanied by a picture, and do the same as I would for the frozen entree. I'll especially let you know if it is "picky kid approved." My biggest failure when attempting to change my eating habits is to fall into a food rut where I'm preparing the same things over and over again because I know how to make them, how many points they are, and that I will definitely like it. I need to find some new go-to's.
