Day 53 of 84 - One Month Countdown

One month left of the challenge. But I won't be stopping there. I CAN'T stop there. As a friend said to me last night after reading my blog... Just keep swimming! And I shall. If I give up now I'll just go back to where I was and continue to gain. I don't want to do that.

I know I've talked about it here before, but I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). It created loads of problems while I was trying to get pregnant and stay pregnant. But now, it's causing all new problems as I'm not wanting to treat for the option of having more kids. That book has closed. So, I made an appointment with a specialist who works with PCOS patients. Here's where my patience comes in... That appointment is two weeks from today. *sigh* I'll survive. In the meantime, my ortho appt for my shoulder is Monday. I'll be honest. I'm scared. The idea of being completely sidelined, especially this close to summer... UGH! But if they can fix the problem and have me come out better on the other side, then I'm game! Docs, docs and more docs. Getting older sucks!! LOL

So, with my appt in two weeks, I have decided to join a bit of a major diet shake up with another person who has recently been diagnosed with the same issue. The thing about PCOS is that it goes hand in hand with insulin resistance - basically causing your body not to process insulin correctly and turn the glucose into fat. Hence easy weight gain, but difficult weight loss. So, she brought up that her doc wants her to try The Colorado Diet. The jist of it is that it is a low carb, high LEAN protein diet. Not like Atkins that pushes proteins of all types, including fatty ones. These are lean with a stress on healthy oils. We're giving it a two week jump start as the program suggests and then after two weeks we should be able to introduce some more carbs back into our diet slowly. Okay... two weeks. I can do this. Then when I go in to talk to the doc in two weeks, I can explain what I'm already doing to try to alleviate some symptom of the syndrome. A huge plus... my boss is doing a similar diet with the same medical diagnosis (plus a couple extras just for fun) and has been doing awesome. She says it's challenging at time, but also rewarding. She has been losing weight like a mad woman for the first time ever and she is feeling better overall, with good lab results coming back as well. What she's done and is doing is pretty inspiring. And it also shows me that it can be done... you just need the motivation and willpower to get it done.

Monday is the day... I'm already half way there really. I just have to drop my morning Kind Bar snack, stay away from my naughty coffees and alter my evening meal a bit to include veggies as a side instead of the little bit of starches I was allowing myself. This is also a good time to try some new things... zucchini spaghetti? Sure, I'm game! Roasted cauliflower... ok. Asparagus... I've had it in restaurants, so why not at home? So, there are some changes I can make to my current diet, but already eating pretty clean will hopefully make this a bit of an easier adjustment. We shall see!! I know I'll be doing some major research and planning this week to prep for the week. Stay tuned... I'll be sure to share. Heck, if I keep shaking things up I'll never get bored! :)
