Haunted and Outdoor Vacation Fun!

I totally agree with the saying... You need a day of vacation to recover from vacation. It was a fun vacation though!

Top right to bottom right clockwise: Timber Coaster, Valleyfair,
The Hubby and Abbycakes on the four wheeler
and Papa, Nana and both girls in Papa's new toy!

Our vacation consisted of a lot of outdoor fun and the weather couldn't have been more cooperative! We had so much on our list of things to choose from. We didn't get through it all, but we made a great dent!

Thursday we got up, dropped off the girls and went to a morning karate class. It was a great way to kick off the day (pun intended). Afterward, we headed out to donate blood and do some serious shopping... Halloween costume supplies! It was a very successful shopping trip too! That evening I had to take a time out from vacation to meet up with a graduating senior for her senior photo session. It was a perfect evening with a beautiful young woman and a little bit of trespassing... SHHHHH!!! I can't wait to see how they all turned out!

After the session it was back to vacation fun for me! The Hubby and I headed out to the Haunted Ship for our annual tradition. It was okay, but it's been better. We headed home to chill with some snacks and a movie and I didn't even make it till the end. My body isn't used to all of that fun in one day! I crashed on the couch half way through the movie!

Friday we picked up where we left off with more fall fun! We decided a mini road trip was in order to check out a new brewery not too far away. One of our vacations just isn't complete without visiting a new brewery, winery or distillery. This one was in Moose Lake, so just a short drive up the highway. We had planned to hit the golf course after lunch, but decided to head to the local ski resort for an afternoon of fun in their adventure park. We rode the alpine coaster a couple of times, hit the zipline, and wrapped it up by riding the scenic chairlift to the bottom of the ski hill for a beer and a game of cribbage and then back up to the top again. It was perfectly relaxing!

After we left there, we headed to the other local haunted area - The Haunted Trail at The Buffalo House just outside of Duluth. This one was so much better than the haunted ship! It starts with a trail ride, which was kind of blah, but then they drop you off at the shack. We were the first ones there, but the second ones to go in on opening night. The news crew got VIP status and bumped us! It was definitely worth the stop! The Hubby and I have been through a lot of haunted places over the past few years and this was probably the best one so far!

Best photobomb! He totally claimed it after he did it too!
Then he offered to take a pic for us, but I kinda liked this one. LOL

Saturday we got up early to hit the road for a longer road trip! We headed do to the Twin Cities to check out some trucks (The Hubby has been on a hunt for a 3/4 ton truck to haul a camper we intend to buy next spring). We eventually wound our way down to Valleyfair for an adult day at the park. We stayed until well after dark to enjoy their haunted areas. It was a bit of a let down, but we still had fun riding the rides!

Sunday was finally a sleep in, relaxing, take your morning slow kind of day. I got up and went directly into the hot tub (we were at the cabin). As soon as Nana and the girls got back from church we hit the open trail for some fall four wheeling fun. Another absolutely perfect day for it too! I couldn't believe how accommodating Mother Nature was for our vacation!

After grabbing some lunch on the trails, we eventually made our way back to the cabin and finally home to get Abbycakes to hockey practice.

All-in-all, it was a perfect Stay-cation! Sure, we traveled a bit, but mostly to towns we frequent on a regular basis. It was nice to play tourist in those well-known areas though! It all went much too fast.

As a result of all of our fun and food, I did gain, but not as horrible as I was fearing. With beer and bar food, it was bound to happen, but I didn't go overboard. So, I can pat myself on the back! We'll see if I can shed it all by weigh in on Friday!

Plus, now that vacation is over, The Hubby has jumped on plan with me as of this morning. Emmy Lou decided to join in too! So, with our upcoming annual Halloween Party, we will make sure to have some THM-friendly items mixed in with all of the potluck fun! After that, we should be in the clear until Thanksgiving! 30 Days of solid effort... We've done this before. NO PROBLEM!
