So, what does all of that mean?
- I’ve lost 15.5 pounds since the day of surgery, but…
- I’ve lost 28.1 pounds since the beginning of April.
- I’ve lost 29.51 total inches across my body since April,
- With 10.08″ being lost in the past month.
- I’ve gone from a size 20W to a comfortable size 14 bottoms
- And an XXL in tops to a L/XL depending on the top
I’m a slow loser, but honestly that’s on me. I haven’t limited any food groups. If I want it, I eat it… just very small quantities. I want this to be a tool that I use to heal my relationship with food, not make it even worse.
So, this past month we’ve had two birthdays, a birthday party, Memorial Day Weekend, Father’s Day, and the end of the school year/start of summer vacation. It’s been a busy 4 weeks!
I have enjoyed part of a cupcake, part of a cookie, a few chips and dip, and share a small portion of someone’s meal if we eat out. Is this slowing my weight loss? Probably. But I’m learning how to be happy with my food choices and with bits here and there of the “off limits” stuff I used to try to ban myself from over the years. It doesn’t work!
I still reach for protein 95% of the time. But that other 5% of the time I give my body what it wants, and I feel good about it.
I know there are some people from the VSG Community who would bash me for my decisions, or tell me I’m doing it all wrong. Hell, I wish I had an aversion to some foods, especially sweet foods. But I’m one of the unlucky minority who is often hungry, can drink 100 ounces of water easily, and still eat a solid 1,000 calories in a day at 2 months post-op. And those 1,000 calories include 70-90 (or more) grams of protein!
I eat almost all regular foods. I don’t have issues with dumping. And I could very likely eat a lot more than 1,000 calories if I wasn’t completely conscious about my decisions and my hunger/full cues. It’s not quite what I was expecting it would be at this point in my journey. But I’m losing weight, I’m eliminating meds from my daily pill box, and I’m making progress.
This tool is helping. It’s just a lot of work to utilize it appropriately and successfully!
Next Challenge
I have 12 weeks until my 44th birthday. So, I’m setting a goal for myself to lose 45 pounds total by my birthday. I know it’s not all about the scale, but it will give me a good visual to focus on as I push forward. That’s a total of 17 pounds in 12 weeks. I’m pretty sure that’s possible.
Additionally, that will put me in ONEderland once again as well, which is my first major goal. I looked back over previous years’ weights and the last time I was under 200 was in April 2021.
